Amber Alexis – Rock for Life 19

Here is a video from Rock for Life 19’s Friday night line up. This video was taken by their bassist, Garry Simmons. For those of you who are not familiar with the band’s history between us and Amber Alexis,  They used to come to every Pennsylvania Rock Show broadcast and hang out and support the band. We love every opportunity that we get to support them. With that being said, check out the video below featuring their original songs Pushed Me and A Good Laugh.

skell – Rock for Life 19

Just over 23 hours ago, Xfactor1 was finishing their set on the Iselin Community Ball field and skell was back stage getting themselves ready to headline the show. As usual, skell came out and provided the people in the field with exactly what they wanted, METAL! This band never ceases to amaze us. We got to witness solos from Mikey Palone on guitar, Mike Ekis on bass, and Cam on the drums. We were provided with everything that we were expecting and then some things that we never imagined. At the end of their set, skell debuted 4 brand new songs. One was a tribute to Wally Wrights daughter called Stone. They followed that up with A track dedicated to their beloved former drummer Keith Kweder, and then finally a song that is dedicated to all those that have lost someone. This last track included the debut of Wally on keyboards with the band. Wait, you said 4 songs… the encore was a track called Sinister. Instead of trying to explain all of this to you, I’ve borrowed the video below that was shot by Reina Peli Art & Photography. Speaking of Reina, you can see her amazing photos of the event on her Facebook page.

Superheroes Believe in Miracles Volume 2

July 20, 2018

Miss Freddye

You’ve started making waves not only in the Pittsburgh Music Scene, but nationally. What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a blues band today?
Just starting out takes time, energy, drive, the right chemistry, and faith in what you do! Stay true to your craft! Be loyal to yourself and your bandmates

I’m looking to add more Pittsburgh Blues Musicians to our site, who should we and our readers know about?
There are so many Pittsburgh blues musicians! I have my favs though. Eugene Morgan, for his down home delta groove, Jimmy Adler for his swing blues style, Tina Daniel’s for her blues rock style, and Dan Bubien for his soulful voice.

Can you pinpoint the moment in your life that you knew you were destined to sing the Blues?
I knew I was going to sing blues for the rest of my life a year after I started singing with my first band. My mentor, Big Al Leavitt and bandleader told me I needed to find a way to get over my stage fright cause people are going to love what I sing!

If there was a fire that destroyed all your music except for one song, which song would you want to survive history?
It is hard to say which song! But, If it was one song, it would be Lady Of the Blues. It was written by my dear friend Steve Nestor who passed away Dec 2017. It is a song describing me as this woman who is a lady, but can hold her own, who has been hurt, but who has picked herself up, dust herself off, and keeps going, no matter what.

What is one thing about you that would surprise your fans?
My fans would be surprised to know I love possums and had one as pet when I was nine! That is a story!

Rock for Life Concert Series 2018

The Rock for Life outdoor shows are just around the corner. This scene main stay has been providing support to sick children since 2000. Have you been to one of their shows?

It is the mission of Rock for Life to provide financial support to needy individuals residing in Western PA who are suffering from life threatening diseases. Rock for Life sponsors music festivals and other music-related and general fundraising events to raise the monies necessary to support its purpose.

While people on the outside see this as a rock concert, I and the people involved in it, see it for what it is. A family of musicians that not only love to play the shows, but do their best to support the children and families that the shows are put on for. It doesn’t end and the concerts. Band members visit the kids in the hospital, go to graduation parties and birthday parties, make prom wishes come true, and are some of the most loving people that you will meet.

Recipient(s) of support will be determined annually, utilizing selection criteria guidelines as adopted by the Directors. Financial support may be provided to a needy individual or a non-profit organization that supports the mission of Rock for Life.

No shows booked at the moment.
